August is here and that means Festival Time. Already I've been up to York for their Big Read which focussed on C J Sampson's murder mystery "Sovereign" set in 1541 when Henry VIII visited York. The library service gave away 5000 copies of the book and had the author to talk. But they had stuff for kids too including me, because I've written three books set in the same era. |

My latest book, is a comedy for younger kids about Henry's search for wife Number 4. The Time Travelling Cat and the Tudor Treasure" is an adventure for older juniors and teenagers. It's about the mysterious Doctor Dee's desperate search for the Philosopher's Stone, desperate because Elizabeth I has ordered him to find it - or else! She inherited her father's penchant for cutting off people's heads. Really, I'm not sure we should be celebrating such a blood thirsty lot, but it was great to meet lots of enthusiastic readers - and fans of Ka, the time-travelling cat - in libraries at New Earswick, Clifton and Tang Hall. Great stuff! |

CLASS 3 ALL AT SEA - LESSON PLAN! At the end of last term I was thrilled to hear from Lucy Crompton, a teacher at Spinney Hill Primary in Leicester. Her class had just been OFSTEDed, and the inspector said he had never seen boys so inspired to write! And what had inspired them? Class 3 All At Sea! Pupils had read the book and written their own stories. I'm sure Lucy's inspiring lessons helped her get the best from her pupils, so I'm delighted that Lucy is going to send me her lesson plans. I'll put them in the Teacher section as soon as I get them. |
